ST CLAIR, JULIAN
"I was born in 1952 and grew up in South-West London. When I first got interested in art, what's called 'POP' was still the prevailing trend and a flat and graphic way of making paintings has always been of great interest to me.
Although I've been painting and exhibing since the early seventies it was only after moving to West Cornwall from London in 1989 that I fully developed my current method of working. I know this may seem a little ironic giving the urban nature of some of my images and prevailing artistic tendancies, but that's how it is for me.
Though I often make reference to the 'golden age' of popular culture, my primary concern is a formal and visual rightness, not a nostalgic or sentimental attitude towards the past".
